Role Overview:

Time Out is seeking a staff writer to join our New York team! This position will provide general editorial and writing support to the Time Out New York editorial team, across all platforms (including digital, social, print, email and live events at Time Out Market New York). The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of NYC’s cultural scene and an interest in covering city-wide events, nightlife, restaurants, bars, theater, art and film. They will possess strong organizational skills, and a willingness to pick up the phone to get additional information on stories as they develop. Responsibilities:

Write 2-3 daily news posts on Time Out’s site about major city announcements, culture-related news and upcoming events

Work closely with Time Out New York’s features department in the execution of both print and digital features that curate the best of the city

Oversee editorial content in Time Out New York’s newsletter

Have your finger on the pulse of what’s happening in New York; use your professional contacts and social-media networks to be the first to identify the next big thing.

Work with the video team to create successful content relevant to your area of expertise.

When required, serve as a spokesperson/quotable expert on things to do in New York.

Embrace Time Out’s digital-first, mobile-first philosophy. A strong background in digital production is absolutely essential.

Provide editorial support where needed, which could include editing copy and researching story ideas.

 

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree

Advanced English proficiency

One to three years of professional experience in the media industry, with a specific focus on digital content and production

Ability to work with various tools of the trade, including content management systems and basic photo skills

Experience with analytical tools, specifically Omniture

The position is based in Time Out New York's Manhattan office.
