Senior Software Engineer - Frontend

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer with hands-on front end experience to join our Technology organization on the SiteX team. Our goal is to improve our users social lives by providing products that help to ensure that they spend their time (and money!) doing things they’ll actually enjoy. 

As a developer on the SiteX team you’ll be working on the core timeout.com platform rebuild. The project is in its early stages of creation resulting in a modern dev environment using NodeJS, Koa and React. Whilst the role is primarily front end you also have the option to work in a more fullstack role, and we’re happy to help you grow your skill set in this direction. Prior knowledge of React, Node, Typescript and Koa are not required. 

You will partner with business stakeholders, integration partners and your colleagues on the tech team to develop simple, scalable solutions to solve a wide range of problems. 

Key Responsibilities

● Develop software solutions in small squads with a focus on simplicity and scale
● Use modern Javascript, HTML and CSS to develop features for the main Time Out site
● Work with the product and UX teams to define and refine features and functionality on the site
● Writing well structured code that is robustly tested
● Improve performance and accessibility across the Time Out site
● Help make architectural decisions about new platforms, frameworks and features
● Have a voice in the future of a growing business
● Help create a culture of problem-solvers
● Help to advocate good development and testing practices
● Help to advocate using software/technology to solve business goals, and formulate solutions to everyday business problems
● Mentor other members of the team, and share knowledge and experience with the wider department

Skills and Experience

● 5+ years software development experience
● BSc/BA in Computer Science/Math is a plus
● Familiar with common/standard design patterns
● Experience developing pages with HTML, CSS, Javascript
● Experience with building performant solutions for high traffic volume sites
● Experience with building server side rendered backends, ideally with NodeJs
● Understanding of potential breakpoints when scaling for the web
● Experience using modern source control systems
● Able to communicate clearly verbally and in written documentation
● Share opinions on coding practices and technical design rigor, and a willingness to debate
● Able to provide guidance for best practices to the group and other developers
● Comfortable working in a team environment and collaborating across disciplines
