Interim Travel Editor (12 month FTC)

Role Overview 

Time Out is looking for an Interim Travel Editor on a 12-month fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will oversee Time Out’s UK and global travel content and provide parental cover for colleagues on the International editorial team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive revenue, traffic and engagement by pitching, writing, editing, proofreading and fact-checking travel news and features
  • Expand Time Out’s English-language travel content by commissioning and updating content to meet keyword opportunities
  • Direct Time Out’s UK domestic travel content strategy to drive traffic and reader loyalty
  • Develop Time Out’s travel contributor network; commission and edit content from freelance writers
  • Collaborate with Time Out’s network of city editors and experts on travel content
  • Coordinate the translation of travel content into English where required
  • Break rising travel topics and stories, keeping your finger on the pulse of industry trends
  • Assist the rest of the International team as required with editorial features and projects, especially during upcoming periods of parental leave
  • Build content using Time Out’s CMS, making sure news and features are optimized for SEO and Time Out’s editorial best practice
  • May include overseeing the layout and production of print travel pages
  • Manage editorial budget and deliver content to deadline
  • Post content to social media to drive social engagements and referrals
  • Create travel-themed email newsletters to promote content
  • Identify and assist with opportunities for video content to drive views
  • Identify commercial opportunities and support commercial teams with campaigns
  • When required, serve as a spokesperson/quotable expert on all things travel
  • Ensure Time Out’s editorial standards are met, all relevant copyrights have been cleared and content meets all legal guidelines
  • Embrace Time Out’s digital-first, mobile-first philosophy; a strong background in digital production is essential

Skills and Experience

  • Excellent writing, editing, commissioning and proofreading skills
  • Highest standard of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Extensive digital production experience, including creating content using a CMS and for social media platforms
  • Experience as a digital travel section or features editor
  • Strong organisational skills including managing editorial calendars and spreadsheets
  • Print commissioning and layout experience desirable
  • Extensive contacts book of contributors, PRs and travel industry figures
  • Fluent English; at least one additional major language ideal
