Role Overview

Time Out is seeking a writer to join our New York Kids team. The writer is responsible for pitching and producing family-friendly content about the city’s festivals and events, from best-of lists to key features and listings for savvy NYC parents. It’s our job to make sure NYC kids experience the coolest events and activities this amazing city has to offer. Can you help? (timeout.com/new-york-kids)

The position can be full-time or part-time depending on the right fit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write and produce compelling, service-driven features in print and digital

  • Write and produce click-worthy lists and timely, newsy online posts

  • Write content for biweekly newsletter

  • Help manage Time Out New York Kids social media handles

  • Assist team in conceptualizing and creating custom content for Time Out New York Kids clients in print and digital as needed

  • Work effectively, independently, creatively and with a good sense of humor under tight deadlines using strong editorial judgment

  • Help the Markets team curate editorial and cultural experiences for families in Time Out Market New York

Personal Attributes & Essential Skills

  • Minimum of three years' experience writing compelling content for a lifestyle or parenting website

  • Basic knowledge of SEO keyword research/analytics tools like Google Analytics and Keyword Keg

  • Experience using content management systems

  • Experience using Adobe InCopy/K4, Photoshop (image resizing), Bridge, Omniture

  • Some editing experience preferred

  • Experience writing for social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter)

  • Ability to quickly learn department processes and accept constructive criticism; eagerness to continually improve writing skills
