Time Out is seeking a Designer to join our New York team. The Designer will be responsible for assisting the Art Director with the visual design and direction for all collateral for Time Out. The position will involve producing collateral for both digital and print, including all digital platforms, direct marketing materials, all US magazine titles, as well as commercial and e-commerce collateral and projects. They will be supervised by the Art Director, and will work with a team of talented designers and photographers. They will regularly collaborate with key staff of business departments, including Content, Events, Creative Solutions, Marketing, E-Commerce and more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate lively, inspired visual solutions for digital and print design within Time Out brand guidelines.

  • Assist the Art Director with the design of collateral across all Time Out departments (Content, Marketing, Commercial, PR, Creative Solutions, and more).

  • Assist the Art Director with design and production of the Time Out New York magazine, as well as any additional US titles. This includes page layout, developing concepts for both features and covers (and executing them), retouching images, proofing pages, illustration, and pre-press.

  • Embrace Time Out’s digital-first, mobile-first philosophy.

  • Work closely with other designers, photographers, picture editors, and writers, managing workloads, ensuring all work produced is up to the highest standards.

  • Meet aggressive deadlines.

  • Work closely with the Art Director, and other key company stakeholders, to ensure that all artwork produced is up to the highest standards, and is consistent with the company’s direction globally.

Personal attributes and essential skills

  • Expert proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite is required, in particular InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

  • Strong experience in digital design is required.

  • Demonstrated desire to build a great business.

  • A clear understanding of the financial and functional dynamics of a global media business.

  • Clear ability to collaborate across business functions and with external parties.

  • A demonstrable passion for and excellent knowledge of digital and print design.

  • Highest standard of accuracy and attention to detail. 

  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise accordingly.

  • Experience writing tight briefs for external contributors. 

  • Flexibility and a professional approach at all times. 

  • The ability to self-supervise in order to meet deadlines. 

  • Ability to work in and contribute to a fun and dynamic team-based environment.

  • Must be educated to degree level or equivalent industry qualification.
