Role Overview
Time Out is seeking an ambitious and brilliant city editor to lead its largest local city team. You will be an outstanding journalist and active Londoner, with an impressive digital and print track record, at least 5 years’ experience in media, and a love of going out and the city. You will have proven your ability as a first-class editor and writer, with a great eye for photography, design and video, and extremely high standards. Strong knowledge of a number Time Out’s key verticals (Events, Food and Drink, Arts and Culture, Film and Music) of the the city and culture of London is essential. You will have commercial acumen and excellent contacts. You will be able to create brilliant and innovative features and franchises which resonate with Londoners and execute them across all platforms. You will be highly focused on digital quality and innovation, excited about contributing to a growing international, global brand. In particular you will be motivated and able to develop this much-loved and award-winning local editorial brand on multiple digital touchpoints, demonstrating a strong understanding of its audience, voice and mission and the ability to focus your own and others’ creative talent on taking that forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Top edit content across all local platforms 
  • Be responsible for the quality, innovation, volume, value and reach of local content, setting local standards and developing the brand within the global framework.
  • Manage a team of local expert editors
  • Manage local budget
  • Work with global Editor in Chief and local creative, commercial and production team to produce Time Out’s London magazine.
  • Maintain excellent and efficient processes on all platforms.
  • Collaborate enthusiastically with local sales teams to proactively develop Time Out’s commercial and editorial success.
  • Create content that meets individual and team goals (e.g. engagement, traffic, conversion, time on page, etc.).
  • Build and manage a team of freelancers to help in the content creation process and edit this content for print and digital use.
  • Ensure content is delivered on time, to brief, within budget and to the standards laid out by Time Out style guides.
  • Be responsible for overall journalistic integrity, including ensuring that all relevant copyrights have been cleared and that content meets legal guidelines.
  • Make recommendations for enhancements to Time Out products where relevant to content and test and approve new products and CMS enhancements.
  • Be an authority on the Time Out brand and competitors.
  • Work with video team to create successful video content relevant to your area of expertise.
  • When required, serve as a spokesperson/quotable expert.
  • Embrace Time Out’s digital-first, mobile-first philosophy. 
  • Act as an effective brand ambassador for Time Out Group, and our forthcoming local Time Out Market, on social and digital platforms and in the industry and media

 

Skills and Experience

  • Degree level education.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Direct experience of analytics, web production, print production, existing and emerging social and distribution platforms.
  • Strong track record as an editor and writer.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in media with a background in digital production.
