Role overview:

This role is central to the smooth production and high quality of various print magazines published by Time Out North America across the year, including the biweekly Time Out New York magazine and less frequent publications distributed elsewhere in North America, including Time Out Chicago, Time Out Boston, Time Out Miami and Time Out Montreal. The successful candidate will thrive on building and enforcing editorial workflows as well as getting hands-on with knocking writers’ copy into sparkling shape and making sure our much-loved publications are mistake-free. This role is key to managing the efficiency and quality of the print output in a fast-paced multi-platform environment where time management and accuracy are of prime importance.



      Working closely with the editors of Time Out city publications, the design team and the production team to build and enforce rigorous editorial production timelines. An intelligent and creative approach to workflows is crucial

      Managing the time spent on print in a media environment where journalists are constantly publishing across different platforms – an understanding of digital workflows and priorities will be needed to make sure that Time Out’s proud print publications continue to shine in the digital age

      Building and enforcing an editorial schedule to ensure that copy flows on time and at sensible intervals across the magazine production period – to avoid pile-ups and bottlenecks in the production process. 

      Working closely with the Head of Design, US, and the Editor, Time Out New York, to make sure that the editorial schedule matches their needs and requirements

      Working with editors, and especially supporting the Editor, Time Out New York, to make sure that the copy in all Time Out publications is of high-quality, sticks to house style and is fact-checked

      Proof-reading all Time Out magazines before publication and suggesting and implementing necessary changes/corrections

      Developing a strong relationship with remote city magazine editors so that you can act as their editorial production ambassador at the Time Out North America HQ in NYC

      Collaborating with the senior content team to evolve the Time Out style guide and to enforce it in collaboration with the North American content team

      This is primarily a hands-on print role, but you will also be expected to offer guidance regarding style and best practice for digital editorial and to assist in setting standards and formats for digital content



      Bachelor’s degree

      Advanced English proficiency

      Minimum five years experience working on a print publication, ideally a magazine or newspaper

      Ideally have parallel experience of digital editorial production and workflows

      Experience working with InCopy/K4 and with digital CMS

      Experience working as a key member of editorial teams, including with art teams and print production managers

      Excellent organisational and time-management skills

      Have a strong affinity with and understanding of the Time Out brand, including its key areas of coverage, including food and drink, things to do in the city, culture and entertainment.
